Race Report – 05 October 2021 Mauriceville MSRR
For the 2nd race of the season 35 riders presented themselves for the long course with 4 for the short course.
The start for both courses was at Double Bridges. The course then headed out towards Mauriceville. The short course riders turning at Jacksons Line for a distance of 14kms and the long course riders turning at Mauriceville for a distance of 32kms. All riders crossed the finish line at 2km from Double Bridges on the Bluff Rangitumau road.
A sense of relief was evident at the start as, despite some heavy showers during the afternoon, the rain held off and the road was drying out. With mild temperatures and hardly any wind conditions were almost ideal.
After a neutralised start (that was more exciting than usual) the race kicked off at pace. By the turnpoint in Mauriceville the peleton had broken into three main groups. The fastest and largest group finishing at 39 minutes. All riders finished within seconds of each other with the bunch sprint won by new cycle shop owner Tom McCallum. The 2nd group had seven riders and finished at 44 minutes and the 3rd group of seven finishing at 45 minutes.
The short course race was won by Scarlett McCallum in 26:27
1st Tom McCallum 39:06

3rd Chris Smith 39:07
