Race Report – 26 Oct 021 John Chesmar Memorial Trophy Watsons/Wainuioru HRR
It was a near perfect evening for the handicap road race going out to Wainuioru school and finishing on Watsons Road. The light westerly gave riders a tailwind out and then subsided for the return leg. An early burst of summer had seen 27 degrees earlier in the afternoon so the evening was pleasantly mild.
Thirtyseven riders presented themselves for the handicap race with another six riders on the short course. The longer race was broken down into Limit, Break 3, Break 2, Break & Scratch. This isn’t the longest course but with three good climbs plus several fast straights it’s definitely not an easy course. The handicappers made a good fist of it with the groups strung out returning over Limeworks Hill and breaks 2 & 3 fighting it out for line honors.
The overall win went to local rider Andrew Dudley (Break 3) in his debut race with the club. The John Chesmar Memorial trophy went to Emily Lutyens (Break 2) as the first club rider to finish.
