Race Report – 18 February 2025 Millers Rd Club Champs RR
Tonight was the club road race champs held on the Millers road circuit. Start/Finish was opposite the Gladstone church. The 16 riders then took a left up Gladstone road past the pub, over the rise next to Middle Run and up to the T junction with Carters Line. Left again down to the Deer Stalkers hall then up the rise past the mushroom factory and downhill on to the Kokatau Straights. From here it’s over the Ruamahanga bridge and up to the left turn onto Millers road. The riders crest the Millers road climb and head downhill for the left turn back to the finish line
The 30km course was made harder with a strong westerly that really made itself felt on the run down to the Deerstalkers Hall. A strong crosswind and all the riders in the gutter made it hard work. This was after a hard acceleration approaching Middle Run that saw the starting group break up into smaller bunches
Erik D’Arbois easily took out the M6 and over group by sticking with the Open bunch. Several others from the Open group decided that one lap was enough and called it quits. Kudos to Eddie Kuipers after being dropped but still completing the two lap race
Well done Nick On for sprinting to 1st place in the Open race and showing the diehards how it’s done!
