Race Report – 29 October 024 Matahiwi ITT

Despite the gloomy forecast 23 riders fronted up to the start line for the individual time trial up Matahiwi road. Fortunately the evening brightened up, the road was dry and the blustery westerly died down a smidge

The 15.3km course is deceptively hard. Heading out there are a series of false flats and gentle rises that, combined with a headwind, can easily tire the legs. Once round the turn point the promised tailwind was conspicuously absent replaced with a gusty crosswind that did little to increase average speeds

Riders were set off at 30 second intervals to attack the course with Dave Drummond the only racer to crack 40kph
